I woke up to a cold, wet morning. I grudgingly got up out of bed, threw on my hoodie and sweatpants, and headed to my bathroom. The morning went by slowly, and the bike ride to school was even worse. When I arrived, I secured my bike lock and headed to the gate with everyone else. To my surprise, most of the people there seemed pretty happy to be back at school. I headed up to the front of the crowd and looked through the tall, metal bars. There it was. The school of my dreams. I was stading tall on my tip-toes, trying to see every part of this new, fantastical school, when I felt someone being forced against me on my left side, and as I fell to the groud and landed hard, I heard a group of sneering laughter.
At first, I was extremely confused about what just happened, so I got up, wincing, and faced the group. I saw that it consisted of about 6 boys, all wearing hoodies and streetwear/skater-boy-esc clothing. I tried to calm myself down to handle the situation, and I managed to slow my breath and ground myself. I looked around at the boys, 5 of . which having a big smirk on their face. One of the boys at the front of the group, a brunette, curly-haired, tall young man, was the only one that looked normal. I guessed that he was the one that pushed me into the ground, so I stepped up infront of him. When I moved forward, the group gave out a collective, "ohhh," but I retained my confidence. "What are you going to do, kid?" said one of the boys from the back. The other boys there laughed and continued to make off-hand comments under their breath, so I just decided to focus on the boy who had pushed me.
I was about to confront him and get angry when I looked into his eyes. While he looked mostly calm, looking straight at him, I noticed his pleading, apologetic tones, and as my courage faded, I started to take in the other aspects of him. I started to see more than just a boy who had pushed me. I took in him as a whole. His broad shoulders, his toned chest, his strong arms, even a seemingly big front. As my eyes started to wander, I started to like him more and more. He was everything I liked to see in a boy. He seemed kind, reserved, gentle, and besides his looks, he seemed like he was a wonderful person. However, was this who he really was? Maybe my mind was trying to make excuses as to why I shouldn't hate him. Maybe he really was wonderful.
All of a sudden, a voice broke my fantasies. "Wow, he really can't speak up for himself, huh?" said one of the boys. How long had I been staring? The boys around us - me and this mysterious young man - had started to lose interest, and were just laughing to themselves about me. By this point, they had all left, leaving only me and this new boy in the middle of the crowd of students. We stood gazing at each other, sending unknown messages through our eyes, trying to learn more about one another despite our lack of direct communication. We remained like that until the blare of the school bell rung and the group of students headed inside.
